Great Pond Mountain Conservation Trust has two types of conserved lands: fee lands which are owned outright, and conservation easements.
GPMCT holds conservation easements on two forested properties in Orland and Dedham, and is a third-party holder on two farm easements in Orland. Through conservation easements, a land trust and a landowner can collaborate to protect a community’s special places in perpetuity, while allowing the land to remain in private hands (and on the tax rolls). GPMCT owns the 4,500-acre Great Pond Mountain Wildlands in Orland, and manages this property for wildlife habitat, recreation, education and sustainable forestry. Visit our Great Pond Mountain Wildlands page to learn more about this property. The trust also owns smaller properties in Bucksport.
